KM from the Trenches: Practical Tips for Making Knowledge Management Work in Your Organization
Knowledge management has been discussed extensively by scholars, but very little has been written about how to make KM projects work in real organizations.  This session will focus exclusively on practical problems which often lead to the failure of KM projects within organizations and how to avert or overcome them.  Panelists share their years of experience gleaned from planning and stewarding KM projects in a variety of industries.  Come hear about the highlights of their new book Knowledge Management Practice in Organizations:  The View from Inside just published by IGI Global: http://www.igi-global.com/book/knowledge-management-practice-organizations/90644.

TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES: The New Knowledge Services – From Collections to Connections
Join SLA Past Presidents Deb Hunt and Guy St. Clair as they discuss how our role as specialist librarians and information professionals is enhanced by our skills, competencies, and professional know-how to bring people together to provide Knowledge Services. To guide the discussion, Deb and Guy ask you to think about three questions:

  1. Do other business units/departments in your organization collect and deliver information to users? If so, do you have a relationship with the managers of those units?

  2. Are you responsible for the company's knowledge assets? Or closely connected with the people responsible?

  3. With respect to the ILS or other information management system used in the business unit where you work, what are your expectations?

Please RSVP to reserve your seat by registering on our website or call 760-870-4243.

All seminar attendees will be eligible to win an iPad Mini and the first 30 registrants will receive a copy of The Librarian's Skillbook: 51 Essential Skills for Information Professionals by Deb Hunt and David Grossman. Plus, all attendees will receive a copy of Soutron Global’s latest publication: From Collections to Connections: Managing the Transformation of Libraries into the Digital Resource Centers of the Future, by Guy St. Clair.
