Library Outreach and the Italian Beef Sandwich
Being able to communicate a library’s value is critical to the library’s success and continued existence. A key part of that communication is effective outreach to the patron/user community that it serves. This session will discuss library outreach and describe practical things that librarians can do to have effective outreach as well as how to develop a mindset wherein library service is always at “top of mind”.

Program Take-Aways

  1. Attendees will become impressed with the need to do effective outreach to the constituencies they serve and have practical behaviors and programs that can aid them in their outreach efforts

SLA Hot Topic: Developing Technology-enabled Custom Research Solutions
We wish to focus on the use of technology by Evalueserve to develop custom research solutions and knowledge processes for its clients. Over the last decade, Evalueserve has evolved as a pioneer in the field of custom research solutions.

We understand, based on the diverse demands of clients across domains, that their expectations related to information gathering has evolved from mere ‘easy to access’ to ‘easy to consume’. In view of this trend, we foresee a growing need for DIY research products that not only allow easy access to information but also customization of data elements as per user preference.

Evalueserve envisions a growing demand for technology-enabled custom research solutions that combine the benefits offered by traditional data aggregators and custom research providers.

Evalueserve would also like to discuss a few Process Enhancement Tools (PETs), which enable users to automate and streamline time-intensive knowledge processes, developed for clients.

SLA Hot Topic: Adapt, Act and Thrive: Ensuring the Sustainable Library
Serious challenges threaten special libraries’ sustainability and we want to show you how your peers Adapt, Act and Thrive.

Join us and a panel of visionary information professionals to learn how they:

• Ensure and leverage info-ubiquity.  Universal access to information assets requires global coverage and 24/7/365 self-service, from any device, including mobile.
• Embed themselves within their organizations.  Library technology must integrate with existing systems, leverage existing information assets and work seamlessly with current IT infrastructure.
• Engage end users.  Users expect to influence and interact with content via social tools.
• Manage challenging vendor relationships.  Get control of third party content providers who are directly approaching end users and bypassing the library.
• Control costs.  Budgets are scrutinized every year; purchased content must be utilized and costs must be recovered.
• Demonstrate value.  Tracking, measurement and monitoring of services, satisfaction and performance are critical, together with communication of results.
Special librarians achieve sustainability by emphasizing access, efficiency, integration and relevance.  Our panel discussion will include several of your peers who make their departments and functions more relevant – now, and into the future. Survive: adapt, act and thrive!

Program Take-Away:

Participants will hear about powerful ways to adopt survival tactics in order to thrive and extend their reach.

SLA Hot Topic: The Agony and Ecstasy of Discovering more in Search
What are the latest technologies that can help searchers discover relevant content in search results?  How well do data visualization, auto complete, and predicted search suggestions really work?  What else can information professionals and search services do to lead searchers to answers rather than just results?  This session will explore the challenges of developing the interfaces and the back-end technologies that can lead both casual and experienced searchers to added insights from both structured and unstructured data.
